My Cost of Living - A Web App

What and Why

I find that people choose their jobs based on abstract numbers and random guesses. By adding all the actual known costs they can have a more accurate number. This number can be revelatory and extremely informative.

The Plan

I partnered with a friend who was building a different app at the same time. We maintained a daily scrum for 12 weeks including. Each sprint was 7 days and we worked through vacations, travel, and timing conflicts. While I explored writing an app from scratch, I eventually settled on using a no code app builder and chose Glide Apps as my app building platform.

Results

I created an app to determine what a user’s expenses would add up to annually. By entering regular expenses, discretionary expenses and annual expenses a user will be presented with a number that approximates how much it costs them to live. The calculator also adds a 25% buffer for taxes and other deductions to more closely approximate what salary would need to be to accommodate the lifestyle stipulated.
